Five easy updates to get your home ready for Autumn

As the temperature drops and the days shorten, we naturally seek comfort and warmth inside our homes. With these 5 easy Autumn updates, you can quickly transition your space into a cosy haven that reflects the mood of the new season.

1. Colour palette

Introducing a new colour palette is one of the easiest and most effective ways of welcoming the new season into your home. Colours often associated with autumn are warm reds, oranges and yellows as these are represented in nature, but other colours complementing these are deep teal tones, and browns. You could select one of these to use as an accent colour in your home to incorporate through feature cushions, throws, accessories or artwork.

2. Texture

Cosy up your rooms with textural layering. Add cushions and throws in tactile textures like velvet, fur, or chunky knit wool. Sheepskins and hides are perfect for adding a touch of warmth too.

3. Rugs

Add warmth and softness underfoot with a large area floor rug. This is a great way to add colour and incorporate pattern into the room. Consider a variety of materials: incredibly soft wool, natural jute, and resilient manmade fibers, with geometric designs for added texture.

4. Lighting

With Daylight Savings coming to an end on the 5th of April, there’s less natural light coming into your home so it’s time to introduce some cosy, artificial lighting. Floor lamps, table lamps and flickering candlelight are an intriguing and inviting way to bring light into a room, without the harshness of bright flourescents from ceiling downlights.

5. Scents and finishing touches

Comforting fragrances that make you think of autumn can bring the finishing touch to your space. Think sandalwood or earthy tones, as well as the more comforting scents like cinnamon, caramel and vanilla. Continue the autumn theme with brass or smokey glass accessories, and bring the outside in with an eye catching arrangement of gathered foliage and dried flower branches.
